Often a single example of work may not demonstrate all the required objectives for a particular assignment. Instead students should collectively consider: the required objectives for each assignment, the multiple examples presented on this blog and during in class presentations. As well ideas discovered through a student's independent research in combination with various examples and ideas presented by instructor will ultimately be the best approach for synthesizing ideas and reaching the requirements (and unique outcome) for any particular course project.

Assignment 2– Part A) Double Primary Color Wheel Assignment

Assignment 2A (Part A of Assignment 2)

Assignment 2 – Part A) Double Primary Color Wheel Assignment 
15 x 20 inch (minimum size) surface that is primed or sealed.
Use your paint kit plus additional colors - additional colors beyond your paint kit. 

Process for Assignment:

-Start with outer ring of shapes (very useful for understanding warm and cool primary colors - view diagram in 3rd image posted)
-Paint must present a surface/shape which appears opaque 
-To mix inner rings mix colors directly across from each other from the outer ring shapes
-Inner rings will allow new ways to mix neutrals and browns (very useful for shadows in other types of subject matter)
-Overall shapes can be painted free hand or can be cut outs from painted paper
-Application of paint should be opaque - should not be able to see surface through paint. 
If paint application is not opaque it means too much water has been used - use less water in the mixture of the paint.

*Ideally it would be best to have warm and cool primary colours. 

*Fully realizing that people will not have both versions of warm and cool primary colours, do consider the diagrams below and try to asses  which of the colours available to you fit within the warm and cool primary colour scheme and what the implications are for mixing the colours available to you. 

If you need further clarification about warm and cool primary colours the instructor would be happy to discuss this with individual students and with the colours that they have available to them.

Warm and cool colours will be discussed in class during the class day when people will be working on colour wheel assignment and will also be discussed during the group discussion and group critique for the colour wheel assignment.
